The world is beautiful.

Nature is already beautiful. There is no need to bring in magic, fairy tales, or the supernatural. The world is wonderful just the way it is.

So why do people deny scientific facts?

I must admit this one question has me up at nights.

Wired magazine sat down to have a chat with Kari Norgaard, Assistant Professor of Sociology and Environmental Studies at Whitman College. The read is very interesting.

Did Desiree Jenning get dystonia from a flu shot? I don't think so.

I was preparing a well thought out article on desiree jennings, the girl who claimed she got dystonia from a flu shot. Which is just foolishness. Here was the draft being prepared:

Desiree Jennings has created quite the stir on the internet. Her video is getting tons of hits on youtube, and the mainstream media has picked up the story. If you have not seen her story you can check it out here.

So Desiree Jennings claims getting the seasonal flu shot has given her dystonia. The first reaction normally people have to hearing such news is pity. They feel sorry for the poor person that is suffering. Sympathy normally leads one to suspend doubt.

Remember the Balloon Boy hoax? Everyone was caught up in the moment when this story broke. The concern for the safety of the child was so overwhelming that no one stopped to question how a balloon only capable of lifting six pounds was carrying a small child. After the boy was found in the attic unharmed, the questions started. It turned out to be a stunt for publicity by the family. If this tells us anything it's that people will do just about anything for publicity. They will go to extraordinary lengths to acquire 15 minutes of fame even exploiting empathy from others.

I am asking you the reader to suspend your automatic sympathy for others so that we can first look over the evidence and decide if such feelings are warranted in this case.

So what is Dystonia and how does someone come down with it?

According to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation:

Dystonia is a movement disorder that causes the muscles to contract and spasm involuntarily.

The website then goes on to explain that Dystonia is a Genetic disorder but in some rare cases it has been known to be caused by reactions to certain medications. Ok that is simple enough.

Now, I was going to continue to explain why there was no way she got dystonia from a flu shot. Then I was going to quote several experts that believed she had a psychosomatic disorder and not dystonia. Meaning... it was all in her head. If the human mind believes it is ill, then it becomes ill.

Getting back to my draft tonight I decided to check on her status. Apparently Jenny Mcarthy (that imbecile that believes vaccines cause autism), and her sexual partner Jim carrey who supports her (probably because of the sexual part), came running to this (not a cheerleader) attention seeking girl. I am assuming so the attention would help them get more support for the nonsense they have been spewing on the air waves for the past few years.

So how is Desiree doing? She is cured! That's right! An incurable disease miraculously vanishes! It's a miracle! Or could it have been a hoax for attention?

I hope this will inspire people who listen to the anti-vaccine propaganda, (which is founded on no scientific merit) to re-evaluate who they listen to for information.

A woman who posed for playboy? Or Doctors and scientists?

A quote from Jenny herself "Until they start accepting our anecdotal evidence..."
Yep! She said that on her latest interview where she denied a new study which conclusively showed her idea of changing an autistic child's diet did not help the child's autism at all.

I got news for you Jenny 'ol' girl. Anecdotal evidence is not acceptable evidence in science.

In fact, it isn't even evidence. Let me give a definition to clear this up
Anecdotal: a single case report not yet substantiated.

For further reading about how bat-shit insane Jenny's comments are.

Oh and Desiree? Dystonia can't be cured. Please explain how you miraculously recovered. Was it a hoax for attention? Or did some miracle cure which is unknown to science drop from the sky and defy the laws of nature?
