ReplyDeleteYou are right about religion mainly being based on fear. But isn't life in general? Don't we all live in fear of certain things? Whether it be of dieing along, or never being loved, or Alabama not winning another N.C. before we die...we all have things that we fear in life. And those things fuel us to do things we normally wouldn't do. So maybe religion and the belief in God makes us strive to be better people because of the fear that there is actually a heaven and hell and the chance is too much to take.
I wish such were true. Sadly, religion does not in any way make humans better. Religion always (throughout history) leads to fanaticism and that leads to absolutism which in turn leads to violence.
